Tickets for Scotland v Italy match available to SSC on Oct 1

Posted in Euro 2008 on September 24, 2007 by Tartan Army Soldier

I recently received notification that Scotland Supporters Club members will be able to buy tickets to the Euro 2008 Scotland v Italy match from October 1. We’re being given up to two tickets per member. Second tickets will be given out as available.

This match may decide the group. For Scotland it is likely to be a crucial game, requiring at least a draw to qualify. And with France and Italy far from out of the way, a win may be the only way to ensure Euro 2008 qualification.

I’m not sure if I’ll be in Britain for this match. Wherever I am I’ll find a Scottish or Italian bar, hotel or embassy showing the game. Definitely not one to miss!!

Scotland rise to 14 in FIFA World Rankings

Posted in FIFA on September 19, 2007 by Tartan Army Soldier

The new FIFA rankings (September 2007) were released today. Not surprisingly, Scotland have risen in the table, climbing 9 places to position 14. It looks like recent Scottish victories against Lithuania and France are being rightly recognised by FIFA. If they carry on playing as well, there is no reason why the Scotland Squad can’t rise further.

Victory in Paris! What a game! What a result! France 0-1 Scotland

I’m just back from Paris. What a superb time! Seeing Scotland defeat one of the world’s finest teams away from home was simply the best. What a day!

First the pre-match meet. After buying a ‘wee’ carry out, we made out way stright to the Eiffel Tower. There we met up with a few thousand other Tartan Army footsoldiers. The atmosphere was as always, suberb, with everyone having a few swallies and a kickabout. This went on for a few hours, after which we got ready for the march to Parc de Princes.

We made our way across Paris. Eventually we arrived at Parc de Princes. Continuing as we started, we popped into a wee bar for last chance lubrication before the game. We talked about maybe taking a point off France and, in our wildest dreams, maybe, just maybe sneaking a 1-0 victory over the French.

Suitably lubricated we entered the French stadium. We couldn’t belive it! There was almost no French fans! What a shocking turnout! The stadium was definitly in the hands of Tartan Army. Only the Scotland team would know the support of the crowd. And we hoped that would help them on their way.

The players took the field, and the Scotland Squad met a barrage of cheering support. What followed was an outstanding Scottish effort. We held the French at bay excellently. There were several French shots at goal, but nothing too serious and nothing that Criag Gordon couldn’t repel. The likelihood of a draw drew closer. Then, after 64 minutes, James McFadden unleashed an outstanding strike on the French goal, sinking the ball in to the net, giving Scotland the lead. The crowd roared! Thousands of us jumped and danced with joy! This was beyond our wildest expectations!

And that was how the match ended. Then the celbrations. We partied and drank until 5 in the morning.

Next game, Scotland v Ukraine, 13 October. See you there.

Another Scotland victory as Lithuania beaten 3-1

What a weekend! I’ve just got back from Glasgow, and have just about recovered from the post-match celebrations.

We did it again! Another winning effort from the Scotland Squad, defeating Lithuania 3-1 and climbing to second place in Group B. Kris Boyd, Stephen McManus and James McFadden provided the goals to give the Scotland team another full complement of points. Despite some dubious diving by the Lithuanians and a very supsect penalty equaliser after 61 minutes, Scotland powered home with the required effort to send the Lithuanians packing without any points.

With good reason, we continued where we left off before the match – celebrating the Scotland squad with liquid refreshment. Hoping to watch the France – Italy we made our way to Shawlands. Alas, nobody was showing it. Didn’t matter though – the score (0-0) helps us no-end. Qualification to Euro 2008 is seeming closer than ever. 🙂

Next stop, Paris. See you there.
