England v Scotland scheduled for August 2013

Scotland are to face England for the first time in 14 years. The squad will be on their way to Wembley Stadium in August next year to face the Auld Enemy, hoping for a repeat of the 1999 victory over the English.

There has been a great desire, for many years, resurrect the Scotland v England matches. Violent fans and security concerns have helped postpone these fixtures for too long. However it seems that all fans are now deemed to be well-behaved enough and police ready enough to ensure a trouble-free game. A win would be fantastic, but with demand for tickets set to be astronomical getting into the stadium will be a major achievement in itself.

This isn’t really ‘on topic’, but it’s too funny not to include.

Dutch fans chant and cheer as a blonde Ukrainian reporter tries to give a report.

Scotland v Australia in August

Scotland will be playing host to Australia for a friendly match in August. The date and venue have been set as Wednesday 15 August at Easter Road, Edinburgh.

I reckon anyone who wants a ticket will get one. The SSC say they will be sending out details soon, but it’s almost definitely the case that all SSC members will be entitled to a ticket. Also, with the date being a Wednesday and the venue away from Hampden, there shouldn’t be a stampede for tickets.

The match isn’t overly important, but it could have some value. Being shortly before the start of the World Cup 2014 qualifiers, supporters will be keen to see signs that the team is going to do well. It’s about time Scotland qualified for something. Hopefully this match can lay the foundations for success.
