Robert Snodgrass goal helps Scotland win 1 – 0 against Croatia

Posted in Gordon Strachan, Scotland Squad, World Cup 2014 with tags , on June 7, 2013 by Tartan Army Soldier

Robert Snodgrass is the hero of the night!

Nobody expected it. Few believed it was possible. And the Croatia team were even reported to be predicting a 5 – 0 victory. But the Scotland squad had other plans. With the help of a 27th minute Robert Snodgrass strike, a determined Scotland team showed the doubters that they weren’t to be taken lightly, and ended the night with all three points.

And tonight’s match was was worth more than just 3 points. We all know that Scotland have between none and zero chance of qualifying for the World Cup 2014 finals in Brazil. Gordon Strachan has probably written off that insane ambition to concentrate on building a team that can give us a chance of qualifying for Euro 2016. However, there was the small matter of how we wold be seeded in the qualifying draw for that competition.  To be ranked 4th (rate?) rather than 5th a victory was needed in Zagreb. Thanks to a admirable performance against the 4th best team in the world, that is exactly what was achieved.

Good job Scotland. Keep up the good work.
