Scotland survive November friendlies

The last week has been a respectable week for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad. A draw against USA and a victory in Norway provided a respectable pair of results.

But should we be impressed? We watched the two matches. And it has to be said that neither of them were highly inspiring.

Both games lacked the passion we expect in a Scotland team. Against the Americans play was lacklustre, with too few shots at goal, and nothing seemed to threaten the scoreline. Arguably Scotland were the better team, but the ball remained the wrong side of the goal line. In Norway we played little better. Scott Brown scored the only goal of the match, but it has to be said the victory, although appreciated by all in the Tartan Army, was not won by a team showing themselves as future World Cup contenders.

Come on Scotland. You know you can do better.
