Impressive Scotland denied victory in Poland

Posted in Euro 2016 with tags , on October 16, 2014 by Tartan Army Soldier

We witnessed another heartening performance by Scotland on Tuesday. Scotland were undoubtedly seeking a victory against the Poles, similar to the 1 – 0 victory in March. Sadly it wasn’t to be.

It would be unrealistic to say it was the best we’ve seen from Scotland, but they fought hard and deserved the point. Shaun Maloney’s 18th minute reply to the Poles going ahead was pure perfection. And Naismith’s goal, giving us the lead, was as impressive as it was welcome. And let’s not forget the defence. Steven Whittaker who saved us from an almost certain Polish goal in the 39th minute showed us that Gordon Strachan is making some good choices for the team. All said a 2 – 2 result was just rewards for an inspiring effort.

Euro 2016 : Scotland win 1 – 0 against Georgia

Scotland won their first home tie in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, defeating Georgia 1 – 0 at Ibrox Park. There was a lot of luck involved, but coach, Gordon Strachan, said the match was the ‘best game’ Scotland had played under his direction.

I have to agree with Mr Strachan. Scotland played an impressive game of football. The kept the majority of possession and made more chances than the opposition. Although Georgia were unlucky, Akaki Khubutia having the misfortune of deflecting the ball into his team’s net, and Irakli Dzaria sending the ball wide of the Scotland goal in the 80th minute, Scotland deserved the 3 points.
Scotland controlled most of the game. And if justice had been done, there would have been a few more Scottish goals. All said, it bodes well. If Scotland keep up the good work there is every chance of a positive result in Poland on Tuesday. Come on Scotland!!
