Scotland squad announced for Euro 2016 qualifiers against Germany and Georgia

The Scotland squad for the forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifying matches has been announced. Players lined up to face Germany and Georgia on the 4th and 7th of September are :

Goalkeepers: Gordon (Celtic), Marshall (Cardiff City), McGregor (Hull City).

Defenders: Berra (Ipswich Town), Forsyth (Derby County), Greer (Brighton & Hove Albion), Hanley (Blackburn Rovers), Hutton (Aston Villa), Martin (Norwich City), Mulgrew (Celtic), Robertson (Hull City), Whittaker (Norwich City).

Midfielders: Anya (Watford), Armstrong (Celtic), Brown (Celtic), Fletcher (West Bromwich Albion), Forrest (Celtic), Maloney (Chicago Fire), Morrison (West Bromwich Albion), McArthur (Crystal Palace), Matt Ritchie (Bournemouth), Russell (Derby County).

Forwards: Fletcher (Sunderland), Griffiths (Celtic), Martin (Derby County), Naismith (Everton)

Scotland drawn against England for World Cup 2018 qualifiers

FIFA recently carried out the draw for the qualification stages of World Cup 2018. For UEFA teams that meant being drawn in one of nine groups of five or six teams. Scotland have ended up in Group F, which includes Slovenia, Malta, Lithuania, and Slovakia. More significantly, it also includes and the Auld Enemy, England.

This makes for an exciting qualification. Recent Scotland results in the Euro qualifiers suggest that they are on the rise, and that qualification may be within our grasp. So, with that in mind, I’m hoping for a long overdue qualification to the World Cup finals in 2018. And a good (crushing?) result against England on the way would be the perfect way to get there.
