Scotland suffer 3 – 0 defeat by France

Another friendly against a Euro 2016 qualifier, another Scotland defeat. A 3 – 0 deficit this time, so compared with the Italy result, three times the woe.

Saturday’s loss at the hands of Euro 2016 hosts in  Metz was another disappointment. Again, the Scotland squad were outclassed. The French had most of the possession and had great deal more strikes at goal. It was no surprise they ended the match ahead by three goals.

There were a few glimmers of hope. Goalkeeper  David Marshal, as he did against Italy, managed to limit the damage. There were also some respectable performances, Swansea full-back Stephen Kingsley and Rangers winger Barrie McKay both showing they merited selection. Gordon Strachan, although likely livid, will have some positives to consider.

Scotland defeated easily by Italians

Sunday was not a good day for Scottish international football. An easy win by Italy over Scotland was not the score anyone wanted. And the overall performance must have caused Gordon Strachan some concern.

This was the first of two matches in Malta. Ahead of the upcoming game against France, Scotland faced the mighty Italy. Let’s be honest, a win was an unlikely outcome, against such a formidable opposition, but a draw, or even a respectable defeat would have been better than what we endured. A single goal victory by Italy disguises what was a lackluster performance by the Scotland team. The score could have been so much worse.
