Scotland suffer 3 – 0 defeat by France

Posted in Friendlies with tags , , on June 8, 2016 by Tartan Army Soldier

Another friendly against a Euro 2016 qualifier, another Scotland defeat. A 3 – 0 deficit this time, so compared with the Italy result, three times the woe.

Saturday’s loss at the hands of Euro 2016 hosts in  Metz was another disappointment. Again, the Scotland squad were outclassed. The French had most of the possession and had great deal more strikes at goal. It was no surprise they ended the match ahead by three goals.

There were a few glimmers of hope. Goalkeeper  David Marshal, as he did against Italy, managed to limit the damage. There were also some respectable performances, Swansea full-back Stephen Kingsley and Rangers winger Barrie McKay both showing they merited selection. Gordon Strachan, although likely livid, will have some positives to consider.

Scotland Away Kit Attrocity

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on February 27, 2014 by Tartan Army Soldier

I am almost speechless! The new Scotland Away Kit has to be the worst thing I have ever laid eyes on! When I first saw it I thought for a moment it was April Fools day.

Yesterday I received an email from the Scotland Supporters Club. The subject was ‘Scotland’s New Away Kit Revealed’. I’m not one for buying every new version of kit, but I thought I would have a look. And I wish I hadn’t bothered. The sight was awful! My eyes wanted to die!

It asks me to preorder. Hmmm… Let me think…. Nah! I’ll save my money thanks, for something that doesn’t make my eyes want to bleed.

With the forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers getting closer the SFA have organised a ‘warm-up’ match against Denmark. George Burley sacked – no surprise

George Burley

George Burley, Scotland Coach 2008-2009

I just read on the BBC football pages, George Burley was sacked earlier today.

It’s hardly a shock. After the 3-0 drubbing in Cardiff it didn’t look good for Burley. That, together with the recent dire World Cup qualification attempt, the SFA had to let him go. And having followed Scotland’s impressive efforts under both Smith and McLeish, this downturn was hard to bear. The SFA had, in my mind, no choice but to act.

Now the question is being asked, who’s going to manage the Scotland team going forward? Hopefully someone with a bit of passion.  Sounness? Strachan? I’d like to see Walter Smith back, but that’s unlikely. Whoever takes the job, let’s hope they can inspire the team and fans like not so long ago. Then we can think about maybe having a chance in Euro 2012.

Holland v Scotland venue confirmed as Amsterdam

Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Holland has been confirmed as taking pace in Amsterdam. The SFA have just declared the venue for the match on 28 March as being the Arena Stadium, home of AFAC Ajax. With a capacity of 51,600, Scotland fan stand to be given an allocation of 5,100 tickets.

Unfortunately, I’m going to miss this match. Heading to Amsterdam with the Tartan Army would have been a pile of fun, but I’ve been asked over to America to see a friend. With a bit of luck though I hope to find a cable channel showing the match, and hopefully see a Scottish goal or two.
